The Nike Academy Most Wanted: Registrations open today
New Zealand registrations are now open for The Nike Academy Most Wanted, the unique talent search for young footballers who dream of becoming elite athletes.
The Nike Academy Most Wanted gives amateur, unsigned footballers the chance to earn a place at the Nike Academy at St. George’s Park, the home of the England National Team, and showcase their skills in front of elite coaches and mentors from the top of the sport.
This year, more young footballers can show their skills with open trials held in both Auckland and Wellington. Those who impress at NZ trials will be selected to attend the Pacific finals in Sydney, Australia at the end of October.
Over two days, the Pacific’s young footballers will have the opportunity to train with elite coaches and the best players from across New Zealand and Australia – cultivating in the announcement of who will head over to trial at The Nike Academy Most Wanted Global Showcase in the UK. The Showcase draws top international coaches and scouts, looking for the next great football talent to sign.
New Zealanders have found success in The Nike Academy Most Wanted search. 20-year-old New Zealander Myer Bevan was offered a place in the 2015 Most Wanted Global Showcase. Myer was then announced as one of twelve players to join Nike Academy Manager Jon Goodman’s elite development squad for the 2016 season. He has recently gone on to score a hat trick in his debut for New Zealand in their opening match of this year’s FIFA under-20 World Cup qualifying campaign.
Dylan Burns joined The Nike Academy in 2014 at the age of 17, and in two weeks was signed by England’s Nottingham Forest.
