We recently had my daughters sixth birthday. Of course, with every kids birthday, photos are a must. Sony offered us the HX90V Compact Camera to try out – what better way to put it to the test?
I am a reasonable photographer when it comes to using my cellphone to capture those special moments, but it had been a while since I had used an actual point and shoot camera. Professional photographer Tom Ang’s Top Ten Camera Tips came in handy to make sure I got the best shots to keep the grandparents happy.
You may ask why would you’d buy a camera if you have a good one on your phone. I wondered that myself, but there is a lot to this camera that makes it well worth the purchase. The HX90V boasts being the world’s smallest digital camera to feature a 30x optical zoom lens, which gives you the best chance of capturing kids in their natural element, without the silly poses or shyness.
As dads, sometimes we think we can ignore the instructions and figure it out. In this case though, I recommend reading them. The Sony’s HX90V Compact Camera has such a vast range of features that it’s best to have a read and get your head around it before getting into it. I am not saying this is a hard camera to use. You could easily put it in auto mode and fire out some amazing quality images, but to really get the most out of it, it is best to read up, watch a YouTube video or five and really put it through its paces. Trust me, you won’t regret it.
I want to mention a couple of the features I found really useful. The HX90V has an 180-degree tiltable LCD monitor for easy framing. This was really useful when capturing videos and still being able to see where you are going (and not tripping over the dogs, or toys on the ground).
The HX90V has a one-touch remote and one-touch sharing system that works well with mobile devices. These features allow you to use your smartphone or tablet as the viewfinder and remote for the camera. The one-touch sharing was also great for sharing your photos and videos.
This camera has an amazing range of features for any parent wanting a high-quality camera at a reasonable price (next to what you might pay for a more bulkier DSLR). The Sony’s HX90V Compact Camera will set you back RRP $699.95. In a world of technology and the ever-evolving demand for amazingly captured childhood moments, the Sony’s HX90V really shines.
