Kia Sorento has always been a well-equipped SUV and in the latest model, launched last year in New Zealand, there are even more bells and whistles, as demonstrated by the mid-range EX model we tested recently.
The first thing you notice getting into the Sorento EX is the full leather interior. The seven seats are perfect for big families, or going away with a group on a road trip. We took the Sorento down to New Plymouth from Auckland and found it was really comfortable on the long trip. The front seats are fully adjustable and can be personalised with ten adjustable settings for the driver and eight for the front passenger. The driver’s side has two memory settings for the seat and mirrors, so you can save it the way you like. The entertainment system in the Sorento EX has had a facelift from its predecessor. It comes with a 7” LCD touch screen with Sat Nav and reversing camera display. I found the entertainment system very user friendly, and the Bluetooth was simple to link up to and the interface looks clean and stylish.
Something else that we thought was pretty cool was the USB plug for the middle row of seats. This was useful for charging the kid’s iPad on the long trip to New Plymouth.
We really liked the Navigation unit on the Sorento for our road trip, it showed you where there were any traffic issues which was really useful. Safety features in the Sorento EX are at a premium, with six airbags and ultra-high Tensile steel that have earned the Sorento a Five Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating.
On the outside the Sorento EX Is a good looking SUV. Kia have followed suit of many other SUV manufacturers and have slim-lined their headlight clusters. The combination of the bodykit and mag wheels give the Sorento give it an stylistic edgy look that really turns heads. The Sorento has a reversing camera and parking sensors.
Under the bonnet, the Kia Sorento EX has a 2.2L DOHC CRDi turbo diesel engine putting out 147kW @ 3,800rpm. The engine does not disappoint and still maintains fantastic fuel economy using 7.8L/100km. The Sorento Ex is four wheel drive, which is always useful and has smart technology that engages the 4WD when it notices that extra traction is needed.
The 2016 Sorento Ex Diesel combines style, safety, and is jam packed with features that the whole family will love. We really enjoyed the Sorento it ticked all the boxes on our road trip.
