Big Boys Toys is excited to announce the McLaren P1; the world’s most anticipated super car will take pride of place at this year’s show held at Auckland’s ASB Showgrounds, November 7-9.
Described as ‘the best drivers’ car in the world’, the McLaren P1 is long awaited successor to the McLaren F1. Incorporating technology derived from Formula 1, the P1 takes to the road what has been learned on the race track.
It harnesses hybrid power with a 3.8 litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, combined with an electric motor – which takes the McLaren P1 from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, or incredibly, from 0 to 200 km/h in 6.8 seconds.
Big Boys Toys festival director Sandra Beacham says that the supercar is a much anticipated highlight of this year’s show.
“The McLaren P1 is a true supercar and we’re delighted that Big Boys Toys will host its official unveiling to the New Zealand public,” she says.
Late last year McLaren Auckland became the 50th global retailer for McLaren Automotive, paving the way for the brands rightful return to New Zealand – the birthplace of legendary Bruce McLaren.
“It is a great privilege for the Giltrap Group to be involved in the continuation of the McLaren story here in New Zealand,” said Sir Colin Giltrap, owner of Giltrap Group, the official partner of McLaren Automotive in Auckland.
“Bruce McLaren was someone I knew. He was the quintessential New Zealand pioneer with a vision of combining sportsmanship with solid engineering practice and cutting-edge technical expertise. It is a real honour for the Giltrap name to bring the range of ground breaking cars bearing the McLaren name back to the founder’s home country.
“We’re delighted to partner with Big Boys Toys to unveil this incredible vehicle to New Zealand,” he said.
The McLaren P1 will headline the 15th Anniversary of Big Boys Toys this year as centrepiece of the new ‘Driven Hall’ at the show.
In addition to the McLaren feature site, the Giltrap Group will showcase their impressive display of luxury and performance vehicles includingLamborghini, Porsche and various other marques – highlighting their diverse range of passenger and sport vehicles.
Marketing Manager for Giltrap Group, Anthony Glover described their experience at last year’s Big Boys Toys “an exceptional success”, saying that the show allowed the public to get up close to some of the most powerful and exotic cars in the country.
The Driven Hall at this year’s show is shaping to be the most exciting automotive display seen in New Zealand for many years with a huge number of car and motorcycle manufacturers confirmed to showcase their latest and greatest.
Car manufacturers’ who have large exhibition sites to showcase and sell their latest vehicles include Jaguar, Land Rover, Mazda, Nissan, Skoda, Suzuki and Volvo.
BBT Driven will also be a mecca for motorcycle lovers with large exhibition sites confirmed from manufacturers such as Indian, Suzuki, Victory and Yamaha. Big Boys Toys has been growing in strength since its re-boot in 2011 and this year will be the biggest in a decade, with attractions completely filling the ASB Showgrounds venue.
“The Big Boys Toys Driven Hall is the biggest display of automotives in the country,” says Beacham. “Just further proof that the Big Boys Toys continues to cement its position as the nation’s leading automotive and men’s lifestyle show”.
More announcements of show highlights and top international talent appearing at the event will follow in coming weeks.
Big Boys Toys is on at the ASB Showgrounds, Greenlane, Auckland, 7th – 9th November 2014.
