On a trip out to Bunning’s for some gardening supplies I stopped off at their playground and got talking to another dad whose child was playing. He mentioned the Clevedon farmers market for a fun day out with the kids, and from there became our weekly Sunday visits to the Clevedon famers markets.
The Clevedon Farmers market has been running since November 20th 2005. They are open every Sunday from 8:30 – 12pm, and run every Sunday, except for Christmas, Easter Sunday, and the Clevedon A&P show.
One of the draw cards for us was that they have horse rides there for the children, and seeing as our daughter loves animals especially horses, this seemed like a much better alternative to trying to fund owning one ourselves. The horse rides are run by Clevedon Animal Farm, and are $6.00 for one ride or $15 for three.
The food stalls at the market range from fresh produce to some very delicious sauces, meats, juices, and other high quality market style food. A few of the stalls include Culley’s, who do amazing hot sauces, Jenny’s Kitchen, who sell the best tamarind chutney, and Clevedon Cuisine Catering, who do delicious bacon and egg baps.
Another plus is that it’s dog friendly. So literally nearly every man and his dog is there. Among the dogs and horses you will find at the market there is the
appearance sometimes of the alpacas. With all these animals around if you have a child who loves animals, this is the place to be.
So if you’re in Auckland and looking for something fun to do on a lazy Sunday grab the kids and the dog and head down to the Clevedon Farmers Market. The market is situated at the new A&P stock yards and exhibition hall, Clevedon Showgrounds, Monument Road (Gate 6, The Munro Entrance).
